  • The Difference Between a Blog and a Forum Post

Many people use the words forum and blog interchangeably. While there are certainly similarities between the two portals, that which differentiates them are important to understand when participating in a community like AgentLinkus.

Both Forum discussion and Blogs involve communities of people who have a similar interest. From a marketing point of view, both forums and blogs have the ability to increase your web presence. Both can also serve to increase your SEO rankings as well, increasing your online visibility. In the information age, many Real Estate Professionals have recognized that their online presence is worth investing their time in. Both Blogs and Forums and great ways for professionals to insert themselves into the conversation.

What sets the two apart, however, is their actual purpose and function.

With a Blog. Generally speaking, the author posts information, an opinion or a commentary on the topic of his or her choosing. Readers of the blog may be able to leave their comments on what the author has posted. Think of a blog as attending a real estate convention. After the main speaker has completed his or her delivery, those in the audience may be allowed to ask questions or offer their own views regarding the subject presented. Your Blogs are often read because of the subject matter you have selected. In time, they are read because you have grown a fan base.

The concept of a community forum, on the other hand, is to help people resolve a problem or issue with a product or a service. In a forum, anyone can start a new topic, and other community members can respond with advice, suggestions, or their own experience. Forums are more engaging between all parties. The goal is to solve the problem posed by the original author of that topic. This allows for a two-way conversation between the topic author and the other forum members. For example, you got a particular response on a short sale offer that has left you perplexed. You start a Forum topic and ask others to help you figure out your next step. Everyone tosses in their ideas, experiences, they asks questions........you get the idea.

The author of a Blog should have total control over the topics to be discussed. If you are a reader of that blog, you can comment on what the writer has said, but you cannot choose a new subject or take the stage. In a forum, members can and do start new discussion topics at their own discretion.

Both blogs and community forums are valuable information sources in their own rights; but, if you are looking to engage with like minded professionals online, a forum is the best use of your time.

If you are looking to create an online presence (for yourself or your company) by sharing your knowledge, advertise your services, marketing your expertise, a blog is the way to go. It is important with a Blog to write what will capture others attention. What can you teach, share, show? If you have a wealth of experience and an aptitude for crafting well written commentaries, Blogging could be a great gig for you.

Some people Blog questions, but questions are definitely better suited for a forum, where others jump in and participate freely.
