  • Issues to Research When Purchasing an Antique

Buying a piece of history has a strong appeal for many home buyers. There is also a strong segment of the population who is attracted to an older home filled with charm and character. Some will say that the properties of yesteryear are built far better than today's homes. In many circumstances those who believe this would be correct!

When buying an antique, however, you need to be really cognizant of some of the flaws that can turn up. There are problems to look for when buying an antique that should not be ignored. Without a doubt when purchasing an older house one of the most important things you can do is get a thorough home inspection. You need to make sure the inspector is highly qualified. It will be his or her inspection that will determine many of the problems you will be dealing with in your purchase.

Antiques by nature have problems that many of today's homes would not have. For example, some of the more common issues in older homes is dealing with lead paint, asbestos, problems will sills and potentialy knob & tube wiring. Each of these things can cost a significant amount of money to remedy. These things also have various levels of difficulty in remedying.

In my latest article at Maximum Real Estate Exposure, you can see a detailed summary of eleven things you need to be aware of during an old home purchase. The link above will take you directly to the article. There are numerous tips discussing what you need to know when buying an old house or antique.

The last thing you are going to want to do is take on someone elses problems. While buying a slice of history can be a great way to go, your dreams can be shattered quickly if you buy a lemon. It pays to do your due diligence when buying an antique.

You don't want to be stuck with a money pit!
